What is upcycled clothing? Here’s all-encompassing rundown, including an explanation of why upcycling clothes it’s important and how to do it.
There has never been a greater need for the reuse and repurpose of old clothing. According to the UN, the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of the world’s carbon emissions. On top of that, studies show that 17 million tons of fabric are produced around the world each year.
Donating to thrift shops has been, and still can be, an effective way to extend the life-cycle of our old clothing. The only downfall is that two-thirds of thrift store discards go straight to the landfill. So what can you do?
Upcycle them!
The definition of upcycling is to reuse discarded objects or materials to create a product of higher quality and value. At Yvonne and Mitchel, we upcycle old clothing and give it a new life by using the fabric to make entirely new designs.
