Car makers racing to meet net zero goals have focused on electric powertrains. But while electric cars do produce less emissions than conventional vehicles, their manufacture is still far from sustainable. As the FT’s Peter Campbell reports, using more recycled parts – especially batteries – could make a big difference, but the road to sustainability is especially challenging for the auto industry.
