Learn 4 different ways on how to repair your jeans – one almost invisible mend by hand, as well as three different methods that you can do on your sewing machine.
All the mending methods shown in this video are intended to strengthen holes and worn out areas and leave a discreet finished look.
There is something beautiful with very well-loved jeans with rips & worn areas – but depending on the location of the holes you might want to celebrate or hide them. My jeans often get worn-out on the inner thighs or in the crotch which is not areas I like to highlight (with mending methods like visible mending) then instead these repair methods are perfect to use.
For the almost invisible mend you will need:
– Spare denim for patch
– Fusible interfacing (Optional)
– Thread in a similar colour to the denim
– Sharp & strong needle (e.g. an embroidery needle)
– Small embroidery hoop
– Pins
For the three denim repairs on a sewing machine you will need:
– Darning foot – for darning with a straight stitch
– Presser foot A (your standard presser foot) – for darning with a 3 step zig-zag stitch
– Automatic buttonhole presser foot – for using a darning stitch if you have one on your machine
– Spare denim and/or fusible interfacing
– Matching thread – you can also use 1-2 different shades to create a look that blends in into your denim
– Pins
I hope these tutorials will help save you a pair of jeans!
