The MOST sustainable cosmetics in the world? – Ethique | Ep 22

Welcome to “The Change Makers” – a weekly video series.

In this series our Change Makers share their stories, their thoughts, their ambitions and their actions to leave our world a better place – to be a Good Ancestor to future generations.

Our planet is experiencing catastrophic environmental harm and it requires us to Think Long Term, beyond our lifetimes, to evaluate our choices and to take actions to ensure a sustainable and healthy future for all.

The stories of those leading the change – The Change Makers – those thinking and acting with long-term vision, are inspirational.
Inspired, we can ask ourselves, “what can we do to be Better Ancestors?”

This week we dive into the topic of sustainable hygiene and beauty products and further explore the concept of “ethical” consumerism. We meet with Brianne West in Christchurch Aotearoa New Zealand.

Brianne is the founder of what may well be the world’s most sustainable cosmetics company, “Ethique”. With “Ethique”, Brianne takes on one of the most wasteful industries and creates a world class zero-waste brand.

The first “Ethique” solid shampoo-bar, “Mintasy”, was made in 2012. It provided an alternative solution to minimise the 80 billion plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles thrown out globally every year.

Since then, much has changed, however sustainability is now recognised as more important than ever. “Ethique” ingredients remain: cruelty free and vegan, palm oil free, are ethically and fairly sourced, “Ethique” staff are paid a living wage, “Ethique” donates 2% of sales to charity and is STILL 100% plastic-free.

Inspirational!
