Patrick Byers will focus on production of American elderberry, a native fruit crop that offers strong possibilities for farmers and value-added processors. The discussion will include choosing a good site for elderberry production, selecting adapted elderberry cultivars, establishing and growing this interesting crop, harvest and processing, and the economic potential of American elderberry.

Patrick Byers is a Commercial Horticulture Field Specialist with University of Missouri Extension, serving nine counties in southwest Missouri. His educational background includes horticulture degrees from the Universities of Nebraska, Missouri, and Arkansas. Patrick’s 33-year career has touched all aspects of horticulture, and his current job focuses on advisement to fruit and vegetable farmers with the goal of supporting sustainability and profitability. His passions include berries (especially elderberry), garlic, native fruits and nuts, hops, and orchids.
