In a cold climate like ours that only gets 100 frost free days a year, it is essential to have effective and affordable food storage systems. Of course fridges & freezers do exist, but root cellars present you with the opportunity to store even more food for less money as you’re no longer paying for external energy inputs. And as your gardens get bigger (like ours) you will inevitably need more space for all your delicious pickles, ferments, jams, sauces, and root crops!
This root cellar in particular is exciting because Rob designed it with earth tubes! These tubes run for 250 underground and will naturally heat and cool the root cellar with the goal of keeping the internal temperature and humidity levels in the right zone.
