Who knew that repairing the earth could lead to free, clean energy?
If we build enough swales and dams in an area, we can create an excess of water that can be dropped vertically over 30 meters or more. By adding air bubbles to the water, we can induce a faster fall than the rise of the bubbles, allowing us to catch the air in chambers and compress it into a powerful energy source. These systems, known as trompes, have no moving parts and are highly efficient. Despite being a centuries-old technology, they are not widely used. One of the most well-known examples of a trompe system is the Ragged Chutes Compressed Air Plant in Canada.
