This presentation was on community gardens and native North Dakota plants, presented by Robert Fox and Linda Black Elk from the United Tribes Technical College.
Robert Fox is a US Air Force veteran from the Sahnish Nation and grew up in White Shield on the Ft. Berthold Reservation. He is the current Cultural Wellness Specialist at United Tribes. He works with youth and elders on the reservation and at the college bringing traditional perspectives including prayer, history, language, and gardening, as well as parenting, budgeting, and healthy life skills.
Linda Black Elk is an ethnobotanist serving as the Food Sovereignty Coordinator at United Tribes specializing in teaching about culturally important plants and their uses as food, medicine, and materials. She has written for numerous publications and is the author of “Watoto Unyutapi” (wah–doh–doh / uen-yue-dah-pee), a field guide to edible wild plants of the Dakota people.
