⦁ STEP 1: To make this DIY T-Shirt Life Hack you need an XL T-Shirt. The first step is put it on and using a chalk mark were you want the peplum to start. For example I want mine a little below my waist, so I made the mark there. Then, go ahead and cut along the line, but don’t throw away the bottom piece of the t-shirt because that’s the fabric you need to make the peplum part of the top.

⦁ STEP 2: For the next step of this DIY Peplum Top Tutorial, choose your favorite fitted tank top and the reason for this is to use it as a pattern to trace it to the t-shirt. Once you finish, cut it out leaving 1 inch for the seam allowance.

⦁ STEP 3: The third step of how to recycle your old t-shirts, you need a sewing machine. Start by placing the right sides of the t-shirt together, then hem the arm holes and sew the sides.

⦁ STEP 4: In the fourth step of this DIY Peplum Top, I am going to use the extra fabric from step 1 to create the peplum. So, fold the fabric in half and place it on a table with the fold facing you and it’s time to calculate your radius. First, take your waist measurement and add 2 inches for the seam allowance. For example, my waist was 28 inches, then I added 2 extra inches which gave me total of 30 and finally I divided it by 6.2. Now that you have your measurement, use a ruler to mark your radius from a corner to create a 1/4 circle curve. Then, determine how long you want your peplum to be. I decided I wanted it 6 inches long, so using the same method, I marked 6 inches all around the curve. One you’re done, you are ready to cut it out. By now you should have 2 half circles, so place the right sides together and sew on both sides to create a full circle.

⦁ STEP 5: The last step of this DIY Peplum Top Hack is to attach the shirt and the peplum. With the t-shirt laying with the right sides out, slide the the peplum part, until the bottom edge of the t-shirt lines up with the smaller curve of the peplum. So, you should end up with the right side of the t-shirt facing the right side of the peplum. Then pin and sew around. That’s it I hope you try out this fun hack idea to upcycle your t-shirts!
