️️️ What is zero waste? Who are the young people practicing it? Is it accessible to all?
In this video, Aleksandra Maldziski and Matina Magkou, 2021 editors of Perspectives on Youth, interviewed Claudia Maffei, zero waste coach, Mikko Piispa, youth researcher, and Tom Campbell, youth activist, to learn more about young people’s views and attitudes towards zero waste practice, as one of the ways to reduce pollution and respond to climate change.
Claudia Maffei is a globally experienced education officer and trainer in sustainable development and global citizenship education. Putting together her expertise in leadership, emotional intelligence and environmental sustainability, she started at the beginning of 2019 her Instagram page Passizerowaste (zero waste steps) where she initially shared her personal journey towards a zero waste lifestyle.
Tom Campbell is a 17-year old youth activist from Edinburgh, Scotland. He is a volunteer for a climate activist organisation, Fridays For Future Scotland, as a part of which he contributed to planning campaigns towards the Just Green Recovery and the Youth Climate Hustings.
Mikko Piispa is a youth researcher who worked in multiple research projects in the Finnish Youth Research Society. His latest projects include research on youth climate activism. Previously he has conducted research on subjects such as life course research on elite athletes and young artists, lifestyle sports, recreational doping use, and tobacco use among young people.
The Perspectives on Youth series aims to stimulate critical and anticipative discussions on youth issues that need to be considered by youth policies in Europe to ensure their relevance for and positive impact on young people, seeking for trends in the youth field that need innovative and forward-looking answers and strategies.
