In today’s world, in order to be a great business, you have to be a green business. But many entrepreneurs who want business sustainability have concerns and challenges to overcome. Bill Zujewski, CMO of Green Business Bureau, is a sustainability expert who reveals the top concerns he hears from small business owners who want to go green. When it comes to money, a small investment in becoming a sustainable business can actually lead to greater profitability and even sales growth. Getting a green certification or joining a green business association, like the Green Business Bureau, will help you get access to more knowledge, resources and a roadmap to becoming more sustainable. Small business owners can make small changes over time or get their employees to help — because despite any concerns of employee pushback, Bill says they’re actually more interested in doing purpose-driven work. They can also help you determine and reduce your carbon footprint. In order to get started and move the needle, it’s important to prioritize tasks that can make a quick impact to tackle first. Lastly, it’s important to avoid greenwashing — don’t just talk the talk, but walk the walk and show customers what you’re actually doing to make a difference. Each business, no matter how big or small, can make a difference to create a greener and more sustainable business world by starting today.
